Conceived in 2013, Spokesman Clothing was created with the intention of offering an alternative product to those currently on offer in the premium cycling market. Mixing fashion with breakthrough technologies, our range is designed to be at the cutting edge of the cycling sector while at the same time producing garments that look appealing and stylish rather than merely practical. Initially, Spokesman started out selling to just a few independent shops in the Yorkshire area, but as word spread and popularity grew, you’ll now see our brand throughout the UK and Northern Ireland, in both independent stores and major cycling chains including Cycle Surgery and Blacks.
At Spokesman, the performance of the rider is key and we strive to advance that performance by ensuring that the rider is sat comfortably, kept warm (or cool) and protected from the elements, be it pouring rain or scorching sunshine. We also take safety very seriously, which is why all our jackets, shorts and tights come with a reflective element, to ensure maximum visibility in any condition, day or night.
We understand clothing manufacturing and how important perfection is when you are selling a premium product. This is why all our garments are sampled, tested and go through rigorous checks at multiple stages to ensure consistency and reliability. We also understand what is important to a cyclist, even down to the smallest detail, so we add important touches like YKK D-Ring zips on our jackets for easy access with gloves and a drop down magnetic storm flap on our Glass Jackets, which can be engaged without getting off the bike. We also use Elastic Interface® pads; the holy grail of pads, as we know that comfort on the bike is an absolute paramount.
All the fabrics that go in to making a Spokesman garment have been hand-picked from the leading suppliers around the world. Our Ghost Jerseys, for example, are treated with Coldblack® finishing treatment which prevents the absorption of heat on dark coloured garments and is a UV protector on light coloured garments up to UPF 30. We also provide a range of Merino garments which, as a natural fibre, increases absorption and is a natural temperature regulator. Furthermore, its mix with polyester ensures not only added breathability but also that it keeps its shape, which is key for cyclists who need to be as aerodynamic as possible.
We do our best to ensure that all our garments have a modern contemporary design as cycle-wear is becoming as much about fashion as it is about comfort. We wanted to pay tribute to the sport through our designs so if you look closer not only will you find humour, but also a nod or two to cycling’s rich history and legendary, if not colourful, characters. We like to use new and novel features where possible, like the YKK burst zips, which are not only practical but also provide a talking point. Traditionally these have been used for easy access to inflatable floatation devices, but if the technology is there, why not use it!
