Jonathan Allan is Channel 4’s Sales Director and is responsible for overseeing the entire revenue earning activity of this truly unique British corporation, which annually generates over £1billion.

Under Jonathan’s leadership Channel 4 is industry leading in the delivery of commercial innovation; working with brands and agencies to adapt in the face of unprecedented technological advances. This approach saw Jonathan’s sales team take the coveted titles of Campaign’s Annual Medium of the Year in 2015, and in 2016 Campaign’s TV Sales Team of the Year for the third year running.

Channel 4 was the first UK broadcaster to embrace viewer data and has over 15m registered viewers to inform its content and commercial strategies, including targeted digital ads across mobile and shared TV screens and to launch the first programmatic trading offer on a TV on-demand service in Europe for All 4. Harnessing knowledge of audience behaviour and consumption of TV enables Jonathan’s teams to build creative, future facing, commercial partnerships that engage audiences across Channel 4’s entire channel portfolio and with content on its sales house partner channels, UKTV, BT Sport and Box TV.

Jonathan also oversees Channel 4’s successful Indie and Commercial Growth Funds which have helped a number of entrepreneurial creative companies achieve growth and generate financial returns for Channel 4.

Jonathan’s background

After completing an economics degree at Newcastle University, Jonathan joined Media Agency network OMD in 1995 as a TV buyer. After a number of years running client business, in 2005, Jonathan was promoted to Deputy Managing Director.

In 2007, aged 32, he was promoted to Managing Director for OMD UK. In this role he defined the agency’s future direction and broadened its offer expanding digital capability as well as launching marketing services, data planning and creative functions.

In July 2011 Jonathan was appointed to Channel 4’s executive leadership team and the Channel 4 Board in the post of Sales Director, reporting directly to the Chief Executive and becoming only the third person in the broadcaster’s history to hold the position.

In April 2013, Jonathan acquired an expanded remit with responsibility for all revenue earning activity at Channel 4.
